Member holdings
Group(s) of biological resources stored in the collection: bacteria, archaea, cyanobacteria (1,111 strains); yeasts, filamentous fungi, oomycota, other fungus- like organisms (3,373 strains)
Our collection comprises three subcollections housed in different departments: (1) food-related microorganisms, (2) probiotics and other lactic acid bacteria, and (3) wood-inhabiting fungi.
Services offered
We offer culture delivery, public and confidential deposits, isolation and quantification of microorganisms from foods and processing equipment, molecular identification and beer spoilage microbiological analyses.
Research
Our research focuses on microbial diversity, taxonomy, and genomics, particularly yeasts, lactic acid bacteria, and probiotics. We investigate microbial communities in fermented foods, evaluate antimicrobial resistance and safety, and explore strains for starter cultures, brewing, and microbial oil production. We also study foodborne pathogens, biofilms, and strategies for their control.
